Does an electromagnetic wave deflect compass needles or repel magnets?

Did you ever do an experiment with a conductor carrying a current(For easiness: DC current with coiled coil conductor of appropriate diameter and length) surrounded with iron filings or a compass needle. Yo will find the iron filings will behave like that of magnetic field or the compass north of the compass needle will be pointed in specific direction according to the direction of the DC current, The field due to the current is an electromagnetic and the conductor itself behaves like a magnet, with polarity of North and South in which the polarity end depends upon the direction of the electric current.I hope above explanation fulfills the answer of your question. Thank you.
