Do you need a gun license to own a Air Rifle in New York State?

Just wondering what documentation you need to own a air rifle in NYS? Also wondering if anyone with experience in air rifles could give me suggestions which make/model to get. (looking for something thats average price/and affective at killing small pests. Also needs a scope.)
