Is the marlin 917vs .17HMR a good rifle?

I'm 13 and I live in alberta canada on a farm and I would like to know if the marlin 917vs .17HMR is a good rifle for foxes/coyotes and pest birds. I own other AIR rifles but now its time for a real one. So is it a good rifle? thanks
